What is a solar farm?
2023-12-08A solar farm, sometimes called a solar garden or photovoltaic (PV) plant, is a large collection of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels that convert sunlight into energy, convert it into electricity, and deliver the electricity to Grid for distribution and consumption by customers like you.
A broader definition of a solar farm may include other ground-mounted solar system large enough to power many homes. This general concept of a solar farm may relate to both residential community solar and community solar projects with hundreds of solar panels, and larger utility-scale solar projects with thousands of solar panels.
Solar farms are divided into two types based on size: utility-scale solar farms and community solar farms. The main difference between the two is their customers, as utility-scale solar farms sell directly to utilities, while community solar farms sell directly to end consumers of electricity, such as homeowners and renters.
